Welcome

Welcome to Catalina Island Medical Center.

As Avalon’s hospital, we serve the medical needs of Santa Catalina Island’s 4,500 residents as well as the more than one million visitors who travel to Catalina each year.

Catalina Island Medical Center features an array of medical services and equipment, including a well-equipped laboratory, CT scanner and radiology department. In addition to 24-hour on-island care, Catalina’s hospital also provides recuperative care and a skilled nursing facility.

Avalon doctors and a nurse practitioner are available to see residents and visitors for routine medical care during regular physician office hours at the Catalina Island Medical Group.

Catalina Island Medical Center, which was formerly known as Avalon Municipal Hospital and Clinic, is located at 100 Falls Canyon Road.

The regular flu season will be here in the fall and in conjunction with the novel H1N1 virus could pose the potential to cause significant illness. We encourage everyone to get the seasonal flu vaccine injection. CIMC will follow federal guidelines for immunizing against H1N1 and will begin distributing the vaccine as soon as it is available.

We all have a shared responsibility to protect ourselves and our families. Everyone should take these steps to protect their health and lessen the spread of this new virus.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • If you are sick with a flu-like illness, stay home for seven days after your symptoms begin or until you have been symptom free for 24 hours. This is to keep from infecting others and spreading the virus further.
  • If issued, follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.
  • Call your personal physician’s office if you have any questions and follow their instructions.
  • Symptoms of H1N1 include fever in excess of 100 degrees, cough, sore throat, stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue. Some of those infected have also experienced diarrhea and vomiting.
